Possible topics include historical and/or individual styles (Gothicism, realism/Wordsworth, Eliot); temporal inflections (the retro, the en avant); comparisons of early and late style within careers (Scott, Dickens, or Carlyle) or between them (early Blake and late Hardy); social styles (arriving late, departing early); political styles (Radical, Tory, Whig); disciplinary styles; staying in style (Austen), going out of style (Bulwer Lytton), and coming into (Blake) or back into (Hemans, Oliphant) style.
Send 250-350 word proposals by 15 March to Eileen Gillooly (eg48@columbia.edu) and Celeste Langan (clangan@berkeley.edu).
