This panel invites papers on Victorian motherhood: the
literal figure and/or its literary incarnations. What is the evolution of this
role, its ideals and their practicality? What is the intersection between
literature and these concepts? Topics to consider include but are not limited
to: philosophical constructs of motherhood, societal expectations and
realities, idealizing the Victorian mother, radical motherhood, and literary mothering.
